For years I’ve heard people say “We never get good old-fashioned blizzards anymore. When I was a kid we’d be stranded for days! I’d sure like to see one of those snowstorms again.”
Well, if you happen to live in northern Iowa or southern Minnesota and have uttered this phrase in the past 20 years, congratulations. You got your wish.
I honestly cannot remember the last time we had a storm like the one that’s got me housebound and carb-loading right now (Sunday Feb 24th). It’s going on 20+ hours of this with at least a few more hours to go. Every major highway is closed and the snow plows have been pulled. Counties have issued no travel advisories for that entire county. Restaurants are closed. Stores are closed. Even some bars are closed (you KNOW it’s bad when that happens!).
Hopefully by the time you are reading this things will have more or less returned to normal and it will once again be safe to leave my house and drive, well, anywhere. If you wanted it, you got it so here’s to you! AND here’s hoping it’s at least another twenty years before we see a winter storm like this again.
