I’m finding it difficult to concentrate today. Why, you might ask?
Because today I am on the Hot Flash Express and it shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. I don’t know why they come in waves, but mine do. I’ll go weeks without a one and then for a period of time you could fry an egg on my forehead most of the time. And that’s where I am right now- in prime frying mode.
I’ve had hot flashes on and off for about 10 years now- starting about a year after my hysterectomy. My doctor assures me it’s not uncommon for women who have their uterus removed but keep their ovaries to start getting hot flashes early. I’m so lucky!! But it doesn’t mean I will stop early. I was a late bloomer, so statistically I would be likely to start menopause later and of course then have it end later too. My mother, who was also a late bloomer, is 73 and says she still gets hot flashes from time to time! So I likely have quite a while to go on this delightful journey to “the next stage” of my life.
Meanwhile my poor husband has to deal with the AC set to 70, bed covers strewn all over the place, and my overall lack of pleasantness. Lucky for me he is a true gem. He knows when to stay busy in the back office and when to offer me ice cream. He knows when I need to vent and when I need space.
Hopefully by the time you are reading this I will be feeling less like a furnace again. Fingers crossed! But I know the fire will be back. What a lovely thing to look forward to!
