As 2017 finally draws to a close there are all kinds of lists of both the best of and the worst of 2017.\u00a0 Next week I will be sharing a list of some good things that came out of this dumpster fire of a year, but this week I’m listing the top 5 things I am hoping and praying we can say goodbye to in 2017.<\/p>\n
#1 Willful ignorance.\u00a0 When did throwing middle school science out the window become a badge of honor?\u00a0 \u00a0I’m looking at you, anti vaxxers, flat Earth believers, climate change deniers and the like.\u00a0 You all look like idiots.\u00a0 And while we’re at it- some folks need to re-take middle school civics and try to wrap their heads around the fact that free speech doesn’t just apply to people you agree with.\u00a0 \u00a0Which leads me into….<\/p>\n
#2 (Political) Party over everything.\u00a0 Both sides of the aisle are guilty of this.\u00a0 Best case scenario, you’re so naive you actually believe that political parties serve any useful function beyond fundraising.\u00a0 Worst case, you are just too lazy to fact check anybody.\u00a0 \u00a0And don’t even get me started on “fake news” i.e. “I don’t like this so I’m going to cover my eyes and ears and pretend it’s not there”.\u00a0 Not a good look on anyone.<\/p>\n
#3 Second hand rage.\u00a0 You can’t be more upset over something than the group of folks supposedly being offended are.\u00a0 Best example is non-military people who were very concerned the military was being dishonored by the NFL player peaceful pregame protests.\u00a0 Too bad none of them took the time to actually talk to any current military member or vet – they would have discovered they weren’t offended at all.\u00a0 \u00a0See also Rihanna being asked why she didn’t use any transgendered models to promote her new makeup line.\u00a0 Not a single transgendered person asked her that – only overly worried “allies”.\u00a0 \u00a0There are plenty of actual things to be upset about- there is no need to manufacture more.<\/p>\n
#4 The “war on Christmas” and “War on Christians”.\u00a0 Neither of these are real.\u00a0 As a Christian I apologize for the exceptionally non Christ like things some folks are doing.\u00a0 There is nothing in my Bible about demanding to be greeted in a certain way, or demanding special treatment in the workplace, or defending Nazis, or being the bedroom gatekeeper, or allowing domestic abuse.\u00a0 God is love.\u00a0 Jesus Loves Me.\u00a0 He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands.\u00a0 This is what we teach our children.\u00a0 How that gets turns into tantrums and hate I truly don’t understand.\u00a0 I assure you that most Christians aren’t like the Duggars or the Westboro “Baptist Church” or any of the other loons you see on TV.<\/p>\n
#5 Over Instragramming EVERYTHING.\u00a0 Yes, your wedding was beautiful.\u00a0 Yes, your dinner looked yummy.\u00a0 Yes, that vacation looks fun.\u00a0 Yes, your child’s ball team did great. But I don’t need (or want) to see 1,000,000,000,000 pictures of it.\u00a0 Neither does almost anyone else.\u00a0 Really.\u00a0 Post a couple pics and save the rest for your grandmother.\u00a0 Except the dinner pics- she doesn’t want to see those either.\u00a0 NO ONE CARES what you had for dinner.\u00a0 I cannot stress that enough.<\/p>\n
