As young children we see the world in black and white.\u00a0 Either we are happy or we are sad.\u00a0 Hungry or full.\u00a0 Wet or dry.\u00a0 We have what we want, or we don’t. There are no shades of gray, no finer points, no degrees of anything.\u00a0 It’s all or nothing.<\/p>\n
As we mature, we come to realize that there are frequently WAY more than 2 sides to a story.\u00a0 There are often nuances, extenuating circumstances, outside influences, and a myriad\u00a0of other factors to take into consideration.\u00a0 And, most of the time most adults do just that face to face, even when discussing hot button topics like gun control or politics.<\/p>\n
But for some reason, all of that goes out the window the second we log into social media.\u00a0 All of a sudden we become 3 year olds again.\u00a0 Everything is black and white and by God if you don’t agree with everything I say you are the most idiotic person who has ever walked on this Earth.\u00a0 Decades long friendships mean nothing.\u00a0 Family ties are meaningless.\u00a0 We take out our verbal napalm and casualties don’t bother us a bit.\u00a0 And yes, I admit I’m just as guilty of this as anyone else.<\/p>\n
And even worse, chances are close to 100% that both you and the person who have just deemed your mortal enemy make good points.\u00a0 \u00a0Points that, if you were talking to this person IN person you might be able to discuss like the rational adults you are.<\/p>\n
Has going ballistic on anyone on Facebook ever actually changed a mind?\u00a0 Has a Twitter war ever solved anything?\u00a0 I submit that the answer is no.\u00a0 And to take it a step further, I submit that when you argue online we are both wrong.\u00a0 And yes, I’m including myself in this one too.<\/p>\n
It’s only a matter of time before there another big scandal\/ national tragedy\/ presidential tweet that gets everyone in a tizzy.\u00a0 \u00a0I am making a promise here to try to avoid social media wars.\u00a0 Will I be completely successful?\u00a0 Probably not.\u00a0 But I’m going to try.\u00a0 And I ask you to pledge the same thing.\u00a0 That way, we can ALL be right!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
