Today is Pi day!<\/p>\n
Pi, of course, is that never-ending number that represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter.\u00a0 In non-geek terms that means every circle is 3.14159265… (etc. to infinity) bigger around than it is across.\u00a0 It’s very important to the study of math and specifically geometry.<\/p>\n
Pi is just fun.\u00a0 It’s an irrational number, fun just to say and also meaning that there is no pattern to it when calculated out.\u00a0 \u00a0It has been calculated out 2.7 trillion digits (yes, that’s trillion with a t) and no pattern emerged so I think it’s pretty safe to say none ever will.\u00a0 Memorizing the first digits of Pi has become a crazy competition sport.\u00a0 \u00a0The current record holder for memorizing\u00a0Pi rattled off just north of 70,000 digits.\u00a0 Why, I have no idea.<\/p>\n
