Well, maybe not dead yet, but it’s certainly on its last legs.<\/p>\n
Here in the United States we have a president who encourages his supporters to mock his political opponents during rallies.\u00a0 His wife has all but admitted he hasn’t been faithful to her.\u00a0 He flat-out lies during interviews and on social media and then gets angry when he’s called out on it.\u00a0 Racism is running rampant, often under the guise of patriotism, and this president encourages it.<\/p>\n
It’s enough to make you think about relocating to Canada- they are nice there, right?<\/p>\n
For most of us,\u00a0 an international move isn’t in the cards.\u00a0 And, as my long suffering former shrink told me, “Wherever you go, there you are”.\u00a0 \u00a0So what can we do to retain some semblance of kindness and civility in our lives?<\/p>\n
Simple.\u00a0 BE that semblance.\u00a0 And I’m not talking about the grand gestures here.\u00a0 If you are so moved to give passionate speeches, run for office, start a charity, etc. then by all means go for it.\u00a0 But civility, like so many other things, starts with the little things.\u00a0 Hold open the door for that person behind you.\u00a0 Be kind to cashiers, wait staff, and other folks in the service industry.\u00a0 Be free with the compliments (sincere ones of course).\u00a0 Simpy smile at people.\u00a0 If you have kids you love, teach them to do these things too.<\/p>\n
Love can spread just as fast as hate.\u00a0 Let’s make this country and this planet a kinder, gentler place one small act of kindness at a time.<\/p>\n
