June is Adopt a Cat month.<\/p>\n
This is the time of year when local animal shelters are inundated with new cats\/ kittens.\u00a0 \u00a0Mating season starts in early spring and the gestational period for a cat is only two months long, so that first batch of kittens are here.\u00a0 \u00a0And in many cases, the parents of said kittens are there too, since folks were finally able to catch that feral or semi-feral cat they have been seeing around for a while.<\/p>\n
There are many, many studies that show how healthy pets are for folks of all ages.\u00a0 There are studies that suggest having pets reduces a child’s chances of developing allergies.<\/p>\n
I can tell you from personal experience that having cats has been emotionally and psychologically healthy for me.\u00a0 There are studies that suggest that the vibration from a cat’s purr can be physically healing.\u00a0 I don’t know about that, but I can tell you that when I’m under the weather having a purring cat next to me certainly makes me feel a little better.<\/p>\n
Yes, cats to require a bit of care in the shape of vet bills and litter box cleaning.\u00a0 But they live longer and are generally less expensive to care for than a dog.\u00a0 Cats are VERY easy to house train.\u00a0 Step one- show cat litter pan.\u00a0 That’s it- you’re done.\u00a0 Maybe if you have an exceptionally slow cat you show it the pan twice, but 99 times out of 100 they get it on the first go-round.\u00a0 No puppy pads, floors lined with newspapers, etc.\u00a0 \u00a0 Short haired cats should never require a trip to the groomers, and even long haired cats can often have their coats taken care of at home- it just requires a little more time and patience.<\/p>\n
