Today is World Suicide Prevention Day.\u00a0 It’s not a funny day, but it’s an important one.<\/p>\n
In spite of all the gains we’ve made in mental health awareness there are many myths about suicide and the suicidal person.\u00a0 The one that makes me the most mad is “People who say they are suicidal really aren’t- they just want attention”.\u00a0 \u00a0Now I’m not saying that this never happens.\u00a0 Of course it does.\u00a0 But it’s not the norm.\u00a0 \u00a0A cry for help that is dismissed could be the last cry that person ever makes.\u00a0 We need to understand this and take it seriously when someone we care about expresses suicidal thoughts, today and every day.<\/p>\n
