“Everything has to be perfect!”<\/p>\n
How often have we heard that?\u00a0 How much stress has that statement caused?\u00a0 And, most importantly, how often was the situation it was used in really that important?<\/p>\n
Sure, there are times when things need to be perfect, or darn close.\u00a0 Scientific experiments.\u00a0 Construction of nuclear reactors.\u00a0 Space launches.\u00a0 Administration of chemotherapy.\u00a0 \u00a0Yet, most of us don’t work with these kinds of life and death situations.\u00a0 We hear this plea for perfection in ordinary, every day situations.\u00a0 Weddings.\u00a0 Birth plans. Surprise parties.<\/p>\n
Why is that?\u00a0 \u00a0Social media certainly plays a role- folks want “Insta worthy” events.\u00a0 Some are even trying to get their events featured by major influencers for exposure or even money.\u00a0 \u00a0Jealously?\u00a0 Sometimes.\u00a0 If 4 of your college friends have all had\u00a0 “perfect” marriage proposals you might want to keep up with the Jones (if not top them) when that moment arises in your life.\u00a0 Advertising?\u00a0 Sure.\u00a0 No one’s running ads for mediocre diamond rings or so-so floral arrangements now are they?<\/p>\n
So what’s the harm in wanting your event to be perfect?\u00a0 For one, it’s incredibly stressful.\u00a0 You will not enjoy one second of your engagement party if you are constantly worried that the music is one decibel too loud or the food table is 1 foot too far to the left.\u00a0 Second, it tends to make you insufferable to the people closest to you, the very people who you supposedly want to share these “perfect” moments with.\u00a0 If all anyone remembers is your meltdown when the napkins were the wrong color no one’s going remember how beautiful the music was.\u00a0 If none of your relatives are speaking to you the next day, it wasn’t worth it, no matter how beautiful the photos turn out.<\/p>\n
There’s nothing wrong with having a lovely party.\u00a0 But lovely parties aren’t perfect parties.\u00a0 Sometimes the candles don’t stay lit.\u00a0 Sometimes Uncle Charlie gets a little drunk.\u00a0 Sometimes people show up late or not at all.\u00a0 So ask yourself which is more important- having more “likes” on Instagram?\u00a0 Or truly connecting and celebrating with the ones you love?\u00a0 I know which one I choose.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
