{"id":30,"date":"2013-11-30T21:02:00","date_gmt":"2013-11-30T21:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beckypalmer.thecomputerguy.bz\/2013\/11\/the-thankful-list-2013-edition\/"},"modified":"2015-11-10T03:46:29","modified_gmt":"2015-11-10T03:46:29","slug":"the-thankful-list-2013-edition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beckypalmer.me\/?p=30","title":{"rendered":"The Thankful List- 2013 Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-pqNqTHyEUM0\/Upke2l8zP-I\/AAAAAAAAAPk\/JMQq-fWH5zs\/s1600\/a_thankful_heart_is_a_happy_heart_phrase_C00763_20509.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-pqNqTHyEUM0\/Upke2l8zP-I\/AAAAAAAAAPk\/JMQq-fWH5zs\/s200\/a_thankful_heart_is_a_happy_heart_phrase_C00763_20509.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"193\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">This is the 2nd edition of my yearly list of things I am thankful for. \u00a0I think this is a great exercise for everyone to do and Thanksgiving time is the perfect time to do it. \u00a0This year I am challenging myself to list 25 blessings in my life without duplicating anything from last year&#8217;s list. \u00a0You can check that list out here:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/becky-p.blogspot.com\/2012\/11\/my-to-z-list-of-blessings.html\">http:\/\/becky-p.blogspot.com\/2012\/11\/my-to-z-list-of-blessings.html<\/a>\u00a0as of course I am still grateful for all of those things too.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">So here are this year&#8217;s nominees in no particular order:<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#1 NFL Football. \u00a0I love watching football, talking about football, playing fantasy football, reading about fantasy football, etc. \u00a0One unexpected benefit of this love is how it&#8217;s helped me professionally- it&#8217;s helped me solidify relationships with male sales reps and customers by giving us something else to talk about.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#2 Satellite radio. \u00a0Makes my commute so much more enjoyable!<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#3 Immanuel Lutheran Church (aka the Freedom church). \u00a0The church I was baptised and confirmed in, the church my dad&#8217;s entire family attends, the church you will find me at every Christmas Eve.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#4 DVRs. \u00a0Excluding live sporting events I prefer to watch recorded TV shows now. \u00a0Even more so this time of year when commercials suggest that everything from crock pots to screwdrivers &#8220;make great gifts!&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#5 Eyeglasses. I do like being able to see where I&#8217;m going and I cannot do contacts.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#6 My hysterectomy. \u00a0It&#8217;s been 4.5 years since my surgery, and while I&#8217;m not glad I had a condition that required the procedure I love seemingly having a slightly larger bladder and that Aunt Flo no longer visits me.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#7 Clinical strength deodorant. \u00a0No explanation required.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#8 Farmers. \u00a0Most of my dad&#8217;s family are farmers, quite a few of my mom&#8217;s relatives are too. \u00a0I grew up on a farm. \u00a0And, I like food.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#9 10 years of private piano lessons. \u00a0There were times I thought I hated them and wanted to quit. \u00a0Looking back I&#8217;m so glad my parents never let me.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#10 Midwest Wireless. \u00a0This company\u00a0doesn&#8217;t exist anymore, but while it did and I worked for them I met my husband, my best friend Lisa and so many other great people. I think MW alumni make up a third of my Facebook friends.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#11 Animal shelters. \u00a0The best place to find your new best friend. \u00a0As I write this my baby girl Pumpkin is curled up on my lap purring and we are celebrating 7 years since she left the shelter and became part of our family.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#12 The recent advances in mental health treatment. \u00a0I take Paxil every day and I have for years. \u00a0It&#8217;s amazing how much better I feel every day because of it. \u00a0I also spent a few years in therapy and I highly recommend it to everyone.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#13 My sister. \u00a0We are the same height but polar opposites in every other way- both physically and mentally. Even though we frequently baffle each other with the choices we make at the end of the day we totally have each others&#8217; backs. She was my very first friend and playmate. \u00a0And of course she is the mom of my two favorite little people- my niece and nephew.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#14 The 21st Century. \u00a0I am so glad I live in this era. \u00a0I don&#8217;t have children, I have short hair, and I&#8217;m very opinionated. \u00a0I cannot imagine living without modern conveniences like indoor plumbing, and thankfully, I don&#8217;t have to.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#15 Frito Lay. \u00a0I have a love\/ hate relationship with this company. But, cheez spelled with a &#8220;z&#8221; is one of my favorite food groups and they do it better than anyone.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#16 Hair dye. \u00a0Knowing my hair color is a great flattering shade for me AND that all my grey hairs are hidden is a huge confidence boost. \u00a0And I LOVE the scalp massage I get during the coloring process. \u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#17 Metalcraft. \u00a0My current employer. \u00a0I like what I do and the brand spanking new building I get to work in. \u00a0I work with some great people. \u00a0I have a low stress commute. \u00a0The company is growing, so I feel I have great job security. \u00a0I&#8217;m lucky.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#18 My mother. \u00a0Yes, she drives me nuts. \u00a0Yes, I complain about her more than I probably should. \u00a0But, she and my dad have been happily married for almost 45 years and I look up to that so much. \u00a0When my sister and I were kids there wasn&#8217;t much money, but she always made sure we had plenty to eat and to wear and never felt deprived. When I was in middle school she began sewing vet supplies at home and after 3 years I found out it was so that I could get the braces I desperately needed.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#19 Diet Dr Pepper. \u00a0Why can&#8217;t all diet pop taste this good?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#20 My sense of humor. \u00a0They say those use can laugh at themselves will always be amused, and I&#8217;m certainly living, tripping and foot removing proof of that. \u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#21 The Midwest- where if you hate the weather, wait 5 minutes. \u00a0As much as I sometimes wonder why I live in a region where 95+ temps are common in the summer and -10 temps are common in the winter I really don&#8217;t think I would enjoy an 80 degree Christmas. \u00a0I also like the slightly slower pace of life here and that everyone on TV (outside of Duck Dynasty and Honey Boo Boo) sounds like me.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#22 The Food Network. \u00a0Far and away my favorite TV channel even though I&#8217;m as likely to prepare any of the dishes demonstrated as I am to wake up tomorrow a natural blonde.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#23 Being a child of the 80s. \u00a0When I was an insecure teenager (as supposed to an insecure adult- ha) shirts, sweaters and dresses were baggy and oversized. \u00a0A blessing for a tall, akward girl who was a late bloomer. \u00a0Yes, I had cringe worthy hair and makeup, but at least my body was covered up. \u00a0I remember when Madonna dancing\/ rolling on the floor in lingerie was scandalous- compare that anything Miley Cyrus has done this week.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#24 Thongs. \u00a0Because panty lines are just plain ugly no matter how you look at them. \u00a0Plus they take up less room in dresser drawers and suitcases than their granny like cousins.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">#25 Having the brains, arms, and financial means to write and publish this list. \u00a0It&#8217;s easy to take that sort of thing for granted.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is the 2nd edition of my yearly list of things I am thankful for. \u00a0I think this is a great exercise for everyone to do and Thanksgiving time is the perfect time to do it. \u00a0This year I am challenging myself to list 25 blessings in my life without duplicating anything from last year&#8217;s list. \u00a0You can check that&#8230;
