{"id":3181,"date":"2020-06-15T17:15:25","date_gmt":"2020-06-15T22:15:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beckypalmer.wpengine.com\/?p=3181"},"modified":"2020-06-14T18:14:05","modified_gmt":"2020-06-14T23:14:05","slug":"2020-distractions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beckypalmer.me\/?p=3181","title":{"rendered":"2020 Distractions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Let&#8217;s face it- 2020 has been a complete and utter dumpster fire.\u00a0 And it&#8217;s not even half over yet.\u00a0 UGH.<\/p>\n<p>Today I&#8217;m going to do something a little different-\u00a0 I&#8217;m sharing a few websites that exist for the sole purpose of offering a diversion from the shit show around us, and remind us that yes, there ARE still good things in the world.\u00a0 I have been a semi- regular visitor to all of them and I am NOT getting paid for any of these recommendations- they are all truly just sites I like.<\/p>\n<p>The Good News Network. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodnewsnetwork.org\/\">https:\/\/www.goodnewsnetwork.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This site showcases good news.\u00a0 From breakthroughs in medical science to celebrities using their fame and fortune for good, to ordinary folks doing extraordinary things, to all kinds of other uplifting, good news.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a recent discovery for me, but they have been around for over 20 years!<\/p>\n<p>CutestPaw\u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cutestpaw.com\/\">http:\/\/www.cutestpaw.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A website full of pictures of pets as posted by their guardians.\u00a0 You can sort for almost any kind of animal you can think of- I&#8217;m partial to cats of course.\u00a0 They also have a good Pinterest site.<\/p>\n<p>The Worst Things for Sale\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/theworstthingsforsale.com\/\">http:\/\/theworstthingsforsale.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This site features the dumbest, oddest, and just plan weirdest items actually offered for sale.\u00a0 Warning- some of the items are NSFW, but they do blur out the naughty bits.\u00a0 The write ups are often just as funny as the products themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Not Always Right\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/notalwaysright.com\/\">https:\/\/notalwaysright.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve ever worked retail, in a call center, or in any service job this site is for you.\u00a0 It&#8217;s full of stories of dumb customers, some of whom are so stupid it even amazes me- and I&#8217;ve been working with the public since 1994.\u00a0 There are also monthly roundups of the best stories, and even an &#8220;inspirational&#8221; category for GOOD stories.<\/p>\n<p>Cake Wrecks<\/p>\n<p>An oldie but goodie.\u00a0 Professional bakers selling God awful looking creations.\u00a0 With witty and funny commentary on almost every one.\u00a0 And on Sundays it features &#8220;Sunday Sweets&#8221;, which are amazing creations that you won&#8217;t believe are actually edible.<\/p>\n<p>Honorable Mention- Buzzfeed<\/p>\n<p>I have this as an app on my phone, but they do have a website too.\u00a0 Yes, you can see news here, but there is a lot of fluff too.\u00a0 Have you ever wondered what kind of cake you are, or what celebrity should be your BFF?\u00a0 They have a quiz for that!\u00a0 They also have a ton of &#8220;shopping lists&#8221;- from great day dresses under $50 to cleaning products with amazing results, to the most comfortable shoes for summer to just about anything else you can imagine.\u00a0 This is my go to relax before falling asleep app.<\/p>\n<p>I hope at least one of these sites make you happier soon.\u00a0 If not, let me know what sites\/ apps put a smile on your face?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Let&#8217;s face it- 2020 has been a complete and utter dumpster fire.\u00a0 And it&#8217;s not even half over yet.\u00a0 UGH.
