Unless you have been living under a very large rock, you know that there is a Presidential election in the United States on Tuesday November 3rd.\u00a0 You also know that tensions are very high leading up to this election- seemingly higher than at any time in recent memory.\u00a0 Add in a global pandemic, and you have a recipe for disaster.<\/p>\n
One fear that I’ve heard expressed over and over again is that, no matter who wins, there will be violence in the streets.\u00a0 I’m hopeful this will not happen.\u00a0 But, I do know for 100% sure that ARE going to be a lot of disappointed people no matter who wins.\u00a0 I’m sure you have folks in your own circle of friends and perhaps even family members who are going to- or have already- vote differently than you.<\/p>\n
More this year than ever, we need to be gracious in victory OR defeat.\u00a0 Remember that folks on the “other side of the aisle” feel their convictions just as deeply as you feel yours, and having that difference of opinion is a vital part of our democracy and our American experience.<\/p>\n
More this year than any other year, we need to figure out what we do after the dust has settled.\u00a0 How are we going to make a part forward?\u00a0 How do we come together as one nation to face the challenges we are all facing together?\u00a0 It might seem like this is an impossible task, but we have to figure this out how to present a united front if we have any chance of success against the huge obstacles we are facing- things like the economy, climate change, racial inequality, and of course, COVID 19.<\/p>\n
So, this year more than any other, I ask for civility.\u00a0 For humility.\u00a0 For a spirit of cooperation, not combativeness.\u00a0 For an understanding that having a difference of opinion is OK, in fact it’s really great!<\/p>\n
And for the love of all that is holy, DO NOT participate or condone violence by anyone if your candidate does not win.\u00a0 There is no place for that in America.\u00a0 Period.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
