{"id":390,"date":"2016-02-02T17:01:10","date_gmt":"2016-02-02T23:01:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beckypalmer.thecomputerguy.bz\/?p=390"},"modified":"2016-02-02T17:01:10","modified_gmt":"2016-02-02T23:01:10","slug":"keeping-america-great","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beckypalmer.me\/?p=390","title":{"rendered":"Keeping America Great"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I&#8217;m sure everyone knows, the Iowa Caucuses were held last night. \u00a0That means that today our TV and radios here in Iowa are political ad free for the first time since last summer. \u00a0Alas, the name calling and bad memes will continue on platforms like Facebook for the foreseeable future, but it&#8217;s considerable relief all Iowans nevertheless.<\/p>\n<p>So what happens now? \u00a0Assuming they beat the blizzard all the candidates that didn&#8217;t drop out last night made a bee line for New Hampshire to annoy everyone there for a while!<\/p>\n<p>I kid. \u00a0Sort of. \u00a0The ads get to be a lot, but I can assure you that in spite of what some political pundits say we Iowans take our &#8220;first in the nation&#8221; status VERY seriously. \u00a0We have amazing access to all the candidates and we ask questions. \u00a0Lots of questions. \u00a0We come to our caucuses well informed and ready to engage in healthy debate if required.<\/p>\n<p>Iowa did its part. \u00a0It certainly\u00a0looks like it will be a long, hard fought battle in both parties, so your participation whenever the political circus that is the primary vote comes to your state is more important than ever. \u00a0 We had record turn outs in many precincts this year here in Iowa- lets keep that going nationwide and become a nation of informed, engaged voters.<\/p>\n<p>With social media and the internet in general there is no excuse for anyone in any state not to learn as much about the candidates as we have here in Iowa.\u00a0 No matter which side of the aisle you&#8217;re on- or especially if you don&#8217;t identify with either side like myself- getting educated about the candidates is not only your right, but your responsibility as an American.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As I&#8217;m sure everyone knows, the Iowa Caucuses were held last night. \u00a0That means that today our TV and radios here in Iowa are political ad free for the first time since last summer. \u00a0Alas, the name calling and bad memes will continue on platforms like Facebook for the foreseeable future, but it&#8217;s considerable relief all Iowans nevertheless.
