My husband and I just got back from Planet ComiCon in Kansas City.\u00a0 We had a great time!<\/p>\n
My husband collects all kinds of autographs from professional wrestlers to actors and musicians.\u00a0 I’m not as interested in the hobby as he is, but sometimes there is someone at these shows I do get excited to meet.\u00a0 And, happily, most of the time the encounters I’ve had at these shows have been enjoyable.<\/p>\n
Yes, you do have to pay for most of these encounters.\u00a0 And yes, sometimes those fees aren’t cheap. At this show, autographs\/ selfies ranged from $20 to $80 per.\u00a0 There was also a service offering professional photos , staring at $30.\u00a0 There is the admission to the show itself.\u00a0 Then of course there are hotel rooms, gas, and meals.\u00a0 So, no, this was not a cheap weekend for us.<\/p>\n
But was it worth it?\u00a0 Absolutely.\u00a0 It was one of the most fun times I’ve had in a LONG time.\u00a0 Among the stars of this show was Adam Savage of Mythbusters fame.\u00a0 I have written several times about my enduring love for that show and its stars.\u00a0 In fact, as soon as I learned Adam was going to be there I was 1000% ready to commit to the weekend.\u00a0 And yes, Adam was just as awesome as I hoped he would be.<\/p>\n
But it wasn’t just Adam (although- no lie- he WAS the highlight for me).\u00a0 There was other celebrities there including Ralph Macchio and Joey Fatone. There was amazing people watching – the cosplay game was very strong.\u00a0 There were hundreds of booths selling everything from comic books to all manners of artwork to candy to video games.\u00a0 \u00a0And outside of the show itself we enjoyed some great KC food and got to spend time with good friends.<\/p>\n
I’ve read many times that gifting experiences create longer lasting feelings of gratitude from the recipient than a gift of a thing.\u00a0 It turns out that also applies to gifting these experiences to yourself.\u00a0 So, the next time you wonder if you should spring for those concert tickets or vacation or whatever you think you will enjoy, DO IT.\u00a0 Your future self will thank you.<\/p>\n
