{"id":4646,"date":"2023-07-24T17:15:24","date_gmt":"2023-07-24T22:15:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beckypalmer.me\/?p=4646"},"modified":"2023-07-23T19:24:27","modified_gmt":"2023-07-24T00:24:27","slug":"introducing-oreo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beckypalmer.me\/?p=4646","title":{"rendered":"Introducing Oreo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This past week my husband and I welcomed a new family member!\u00a0 \u00a0 Meet Oreo!<\/p>\n<p>As you may remember, my husband and I said goodbye to our sweet baby girl Pumpkin last December after a wonderful 16 years together.\u00a0 In recent months we&#8217;ve been talking about adopting another cat on and off, but nothing too concrete.\u00a0 We had a few events where we would be away from home for a few days and didn&#8217;t want to bring in a new kitty right before that.\u00a0 But we were pretty sure whenever the time came we would be getting another black cat, because black cats are the hardest for shelters to adopt out.\u00a0 My husband did say he wanted a male cat because we&#8217;ve had all female cats since his cat Hershey passed in 2020.\u00a0 Hershey was just shy of his 19th birthday and had been with my husband longer than I have.<\/p>\n<p>Well, sometimes the universe just gives you a big ol sign.\u00a0 A local shelter posted a new litter of kittens up for adoption named Graham, Maro, and Hershey.\u00a0 And yes, Hershey was male and he was black and white.\u00a0 So last week Hershey- who is now named Oreo- because part of our family.<\/p>\n<p>Oreo is 3 to 4 months old and he is a ball of energy.\u00a0 If he is awake he is zipping around at top speed.\u00a0 It&#8217;s been a while since we&#8217;ve had this kind of kitten energy here!\u00a0 Yes, Lilly was about 6 months old when we rescued her, but she was expending quite a lot of energy growing kittens inside of her, so she wasn&#8217;t anywhere NEAR this energetic!\u00a0 \u00a0When he does sit down for a minute Oreo can cuddle quite well and has the loudest purr you have ever heard.\u00a0 He also has very pretty brown eyes- I don&#8217;t remember ever seeing a cat with eyes this color before.\u00a0 He didn&#8217;t seem to have any fear about his new home- he was lounging in the front window within 2 hours of first setting foot in the place!\u00a0 We haven&#8217;t let him in the basement yet, but I don&#8217;t think there is any other corner of our home he hasn&#8217;t explored.<\/p>\n<p>He and Lilly are getting along really well already.\u00a0 Boots is less enthused about having a little brother, but she has come out from under the bed and is willing to be in the same room as Oreo, so that is progress.<\/p>\n<p>So here&#8217;s to the next chapter of Oreo&#8217;s life!\u00a0 We already love him to bits and are looking forward to many happy years together!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This past week my husband and I welcomed a new family member!\u00a0 \u00a0 Meet Oreo!
