I REPEAT- WE DO NOT SAY HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!<\/p>\n
Memorial Day is not a happy day.\u00a0 It is a day to remember those who lost their lives in military service.\u00a0 Every single one of those people who lost their lives had people who loved them.\u00a0 They had parents.\u00a0 They have friends.\u00a0 Maybe they also had siblings.\u00a0 Maybe a spouse.\u00a0 Maybe cousins.\u00a0 Someone – maybe a lot of someones- loved them and mourned their loss.<\/p>\n
Saying Happy Memorial Day is a slap in the face to each and every one of those folks who passed AND to all of their loved ones.<\/p>\n
There is a different holiday called Veterans Day.\u00a0 It’s celebrated November 11th every year.\u00a0 THAT is the day to celebrate all of the veterans.\u00a0 Including my dad who was in Vietnam.<\/p>\n
There is yet another different holiday called Armed Forces Day. It’s celebrated on the third Saturday in May.\u00a0 In 2024 it was on May 18th.\u00a0 THAT is the day to celebrate folks currently in the military.\u00a0 Including my nephew Luke who is currently in basic training in Georgia.<\/p>\n
If you want to thank a current or former member of the military you can of course do that any day you like.\u00a0 Many think we don’t do this anywhere near enough.\u00a0 You can even thank them today!<\/p>\n
