There is a new sport making huge gains in popularity here in Iowa- Girls Wrestling.\u00a0 And I say it’s about time!<\/p>\n
For some time there have been girls interested in wrestling.\u00a0 Some high school programs allowed girls on their teams, some did not.\u00a0 But it was a hard road for those girls.\u00a0 Some opponents would just forfeit instead of competing against them.\u00a0 Some schools simply refused to allow girls to wrestle against their team.\u00a0 There were ignorant parents who assumed boys and girls completing this this way would lead to inappropriate sexual situations.<\/p>\n
But in 2022 girls wrestling became an officially sanctioned high school sport here in Iowa.\u00a0 The number of athletes\/ teams has grown exponentially since.<\/p>\n
I freely admit I know very little about high school wresting.\u00a0 I didn’t grow up going to meets or watching wrestling on TV.\u00a0 \u00a0But that doesn’t mean that I’m not thrilled for this new opportunity for girls to compete in the sport of their choice.\u00a0 And so should everyone else.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
