My sister and I are very fortunate in a few ways.\u00a0 Neither of us have ever had a cavity.\u00a0 We have never had a fight that left us not speaking to each other for weeks or months at a time.\u00a0 Neither of us have had to bail the other out from jail.\u00a0 Our parents are in very good health for their age (they are both 77 years old).<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, a couple weeks ago there was a bump in the road.\u00a0 Our mother tripped at a toy show and severely dislocated her right shoulder and yes she is right handed. Mom is still getting tests done at the time I’m writing this.\u00a0 We don’t know yet if she will need surgery or not.<\/p>\n
Mom doesn’t require 24\/7 supervision, but she can’t be alone for extended periods of time because there are just so many things she can’t do left handed.\u00a0 For the past 2 weekends I have been staying with Mom helping her with household tasks that are impossible to do one handed.\u00a0 My sister lives much closer so she’s been swinging by on evenings and also one day last week when Dad went to a funeral.<\/p>\n
I don’t mean to discount Dad at all.\u00a0 He does so much every day for Mom.\u00a0 His sister\/ our aunt is an LPN and she lives nearby and has been very helpful too.\u00a0 \u00a0But this is the first time my sister and I have had to have serious conversations about who is going to take care of mom when.\u00a0 And it’s scary.\u00a0 And it’s a peek into the not too distant future that we’ve been blissfully ignoring for some time now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
