{"id":5368,"date":"2025-08-25T17:15:03","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T22:15:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beckypalmer.me\/?p=5368"},"modified":"2025-08-24T18:42:27","modified_gmt":"2025-08-24T23:42:27","slug":"3-ways-to-make-your-mornings-better-and-the-2-i-actually-do","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beckypalmer.me\/?p=5368","title":{"rendered":"3 Ways to Make Your Mornings Better (and the 2 I Actually Do)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am not a morning person.\u00a0 Never have been, never will be.\u00a0 For around 18 months I had a job that required me to be at the office at 6am and I had about a 35 minute commute.\u00a0 Everyone told me I would get used to it.\u00a0 Nope.\u00a0 I just got used to feeling like crap every day.<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward about 20 years.\u00a0 I have to be in the office at 8am and in spite of being in an entirely different state my commute is still around 35 minutes.\u00a0 \u00a0 I&#8217;m only slightly better at getting up and out the door on time as I was then.\u00a0 But I am taking a little better care of myself than I was back then.<\/p>\n<p>So what are 3 things you can do to make your mornings better?\u00a0 And yes, I actually do 2 of these most of the time!<\/p>\n<p>#1 Don&#8217;t hit the snooze.\u00a0 Me and the snooze bar were in a committed relationship for decades.\u00a0 \u00a0We have broken up, but not because I realized how bad it was for me (it&#8217;s really bad for you).\u00a0 I married a very light sleeper and the snooze drove him crazy.\u00a0 \u00a0So I stopped.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t admit for years that it actually helps me feel more awake during my commute.\u00a0 \u00a0It really messes with your brain chemistry.<\/p>\n<p>#2 Have a consistent bed time.\u00a0 I am almost always in bed by 10pm.\u00a0 \u00a0And yes it&#8217;s usually close to this time on the weekends.\u00a0 My body is just used to it.\u00a0 Of course there are exceptions but a consistent bedtime is one of the best things you can do to help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep all night long.<\/p>\n<p>#3 Stay off your phone in bed.\u00a0 Yep, this is the one that I don&#8217;t do.\u00a0 I try to not doom scroll, but even if I&#8217;m just playing a casual game or watching videos that damn blue light is screwing up my brain.\u00a0 I have gotten some better with this at night because I&#8217;m reading more, but in the mornings?\u00a0 it&#8217;s replaced my snooze alarm.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not great.\u00a0 And I know it.\u00a0 But 2 out of 3 ain&#8217;t bad right?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am not a morning person.\u00a0 Never have been, never will be.\u00a0 For around 18 months I had a job that required me to be at the office at 6am and I had about a 35 minute commute.\u00a0 Everyone told me I would get used to it.\u00a0 Nope.\u00a0 I just got used to feeling like crap every day.
