{"id":5467,"date":"2025-12-08T17:15:22","date_gmt":"2025-12-08T23:15:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beckypalmer.me\/?p=5467"},"modified":"2025-12-07T20:37:57","modified_gmt":"2025-12-08T02:37:57","slug":"the-best-books-i-read-this-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beckypalmer.me\/?p=5467","title":{"rendered":"The Best Books I Read This Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In case you hadn&#8217;t heard- book clubs &#8211; along with good old-fashioned books- are back!<\/p>\n<p>I made the decision to get more books and less screens in my life a while back and I&#8217;m so glad I did.\u00a0 If you missed that you can read about that here\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/beckypalmer.me\/?p=4856\">https:\/\/beckypalmer.me\/?p=4856<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 And yes I have joined the book club at my library!<\/p>\n<p>I gravitate toward murder mysteries\/ thrillers but I do try to mix it up and add other genres including some non-fiction titles.\u00a0 And I&#8217;m glad I did- some of the best books I read this year were NOT thrillers!\u00a0 And only one of them was new this year- most have been out for ages now.\u00a0 So without further ado,\u00a0 here are the 5 best books I read this year:<\/p>\n<p>#5 Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green.\u00a0 Yes, the same John Green who wrote The Fault in Our Stars and other YA best sellers.\u00a0 This is a non-fiction book about the impact of this disease through history and today.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not as dry as it sounds- I promise!<\/p>\n<p>#4 The President is Missing by James Patterson and Bill Clinton.\u00a0 \u00a0A thriller about a massive world wide cyber attack where the President becomes a suspect.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t want to give more away but it&#8217;s a very good read!<\/p>\n<p>#3 Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer.\u00a0 A native American woman tells her story of marrying her PhD in Biology with her roots.\u00a0 It is a beautiful read.<\/p>\n<p>#2 The Guest List by Lucy Foley.\u00a0 Anything by Lucy Foley is good!\u00a0 A murder mystery in the style of And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie- a group of people trapped by a storm from the rest of the world and people start dying.<\/p>\n<p>#1 When Women were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill.\u00a0 A fantasy story about a world were woman can turn into dragons.\u00a0 It touches on sexism, government corruption and many other non-fun themes, but it such a way that you cannot put it down.\u00a0 Fantasy is not a genre I usually read, but this book was amazing and I recommend it to everyone.<\/p>\n<p>Honorable mentions include The Silent Patient by Alex Michalides, The Night Shift by Alex Finlay, and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In case you hadn&#8217;t heard- book clubs &#8211; along with good old-fashioned books- are back!
