My father is the commander of a small Legion post.\u00a0 He’s been a member of this post since before I was born.\u00a0 I have many childhood memories of his marching in the Memorial Day parade.\u00a0 Come rain or shine he was always there.<\/p>\n
The American Legion was granted a charter by Congress on September 16th 1919.\u00a0 They offer a wide range of services to veterans as well as a place for current and former military members to gather and support one another.\u00a0 Their membership is declining greatly- for whatever reason younger service members aren’t going.<\/p>\n
If you know a veteran, after you thank them for their service, ask if they are a member of their local Legion Post.\u00a0 If not, encourage them to look into it.<\/p>\n
