Today is Paul Bunyan day!
If you’re from Minnesota, Michigan, or Maine you are likely familiar with Paul Bunyan, but the fine folks in other states may not have ever heard of him.
Paul Bunyan is a folklore character born from the storytelling in lumberjack quarters. He is an enormous lumberjack who created Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes by walking across the land, often with his equally enormous sidekick, Babe the Blue Ox. There are statues of him and local celebrations bearing his name in several northern communities. The photo for this post was taken in Bemiji Minnesota in 2012 and yes that is me in between Paul and Babe.
So, if you have fond memories of trips “up north” that included Paul Bunyan, today is a great time to share them with a friend or loved one. If not, today is a great day to read up on this fun folklore figure!
