If you are a bit of nerd like me, you immediately recognized this slogan as the cover from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, from the book by the same name from the late, great Douglas Adams. And what other essential would any self-respecting galaxy traveler would carry at all times? That’s right, a towel! So yes, today is Towel… Read more »
I’ve been seeing a lot of posts on Facebook lately stating Christians in America are being discriminated against. One post that’s been very popular lately goes like this: You wouldn’t demand a Jewish deli owner serve ham and cheese. You wouldn’t demand a Muslim caterer serve pork tenderloins. So why can you demand a Christian restaurants cater to same sex… Read more »
I know it’s only Tuesday, but I just couldn’t resist sharing what I think it my favorite of all the silly holidays I’ve learned about so far- Pack Rat Day! Today is a day for celebrating our inner hoarder and admitting that yes, we DO still have clothes we’ll never wear (or even fit into) ever again, greeting cards from… Read more »
Yesterday morning we celebrated the Confirmation of Faith of 5 young people at my church. 2 of them were also baptized at the same time, which I thought was pretty remarkable. As we were leaving church the accompanist played an arrangement of the Michael W Smith song “Friends”. If you are a child of the 80’s who was raised Christian… Read more »

I was raised in a staunchly loyal Republican family. My uncle was a national convention delegate in 1988. I am too young to have voted for Ronald Reagan, but I voted for Bush Sr in 1992 (my first presidential vote) and for Bob Dole in 1996. Back then I never could have imagined the day when I wouldn’t vote… Read more »
I’m currently recovering from gallbladder surgery that I had last Thursday. I am feeling better every day but I’m still certainly feeling the effects. So, while there are all kind of thoughts bouncing around in my head, I’m currently lacking the ability to make them line up in coherent fashion. I hope you return to our normal posting schedule next… Read more »
Last week my husband and I were fortunate enough to attend Bill Nye’s lecture at Drake University in Des Moines. Bill Nye is best known as the host of the 90’s kids show Bill Nye the Science Guy, but there is way more to him than that. He is the CEO of the Planetary Society. He has taught at Cornell… Read more »
