The Last Bullseye

As you well know by now, I am the champion of the child free life.   If you are a parent and you love it good for you.  I love my niece and nephew to bits!   But they don’t live with me.  Thank God.

I hate being told that I’m going to regret not having kids when I’m older.  While there is no way anyone can know what the future holds, I can assure you that I’m 100% at peace with it now in my mid 40’s.  I hate being told that I’m selfish for not having kids.  I cannot think of many things MORE selfish than having a child I don’t want simply because it’s something I have to do.   I hate being told that I’m not a good Christian because I’m not a parent.  That’s between me and the Lord thank you very much.

Last week I heard a new one- I’m lazy.  Yep.  My life is nothing but sitting on the couch eating bon bons and watching soap operas simply because I’ve never given birth.

We live in an age where it’s OK to be virtually anything you want to be.  But childless?  Woah- THAT makes you some kind of freak.   Why?  What is it about choosing not to be a parent that makes me a perfectly acceptable target of ridicule in this era where it’s almost a crime to criticize anyone for anything?

If you have the answer please tell me, because I certainly don’t have it.
