Geek Pride Day

Yet another holiday after my own heart- today is Geek Pride Day!

This holiday was invented in Spain in 2006 on this day, which also marks the anniversary of the release of the first (technically third, but only geeks know that) Star Wars movie.

While in some ways I’m not a full-fledged geek I’ve done plenty of things that qualify me for inclusion in the group, including going to the midnight showing of the fourth (first) Star Wars movie, playing Dungeons and Dragons for years- in person AND online- and being more excited to see Bill Nye the Science Guy than the Goo Goo Dolls, Rascall Flatts, or Wayne Newton.  And yes, I’ve seen all of them and they were all really good (except maybe the Goo Goo Dolls).  I’m the frequently the annoying one pointing out the scientific inaccuracies in fad diets, popular movies, etc.  And anyone who knew me in my younger days can witness to my geeky high school days.

I’m always about being yourself and being happy in your own skin.  Partially because I’m still working on that for myself.  But the older I get, the more confidence I’m gaining in being myself.  And yes, that includes acknowledging that it’s OK- maybe even good- to be a geek.
