Cordial Company

Company Christmas parties.  Love them or hate them, unless you are self-employed you probably have one coming up on your calendar.

There are a few schools of thought on these events.  Some folks say they are essentially mandatory if you want to advance at your company.  Some folks avoid them like the plague because they DO want to advance and don’t want to put themselves in compromising positions.  Some folks don’t go because they genuinely don’t like their coworkers and/ or employer.  Some folks find the party their particular employer puts on is lame, boring, or even worse.  Some folks simply don’t like crowds in any form.  Some folks don’t celebrate Christmas.

I have found myself in several of these camps over the years.  Currently I’m blessed to be working for a great company with a lot of great coworkers.  Our Christmas parties are pretty tame but a nice time nevertheless.  And this year at my work party I’m going to be among the people receiving a service award – mine is for my 10 year work anniversary.

10 years is by far the longest I’ve worked for any employer.  I’m very happy to be where I am and I have spent exactly no time looking for anything else since day one.   I know I’m fortunate to be where I am.

So yes, I’m going to my company Christmas party.  I might have one too many cocktails and say something foolish.  I might not get to sit by the people I want to sit by.  I might not love the necklace I picked out for my service award.  I might stay too late and be super crabby in the morning (have to get up early for the football game I wrote about a couple of weeks ago).  But I’m going.  And I encourage you to do the same.
