One of the best things about living in Iowa is the access we have to Presidential candidates. Our First in the Nation caucuses make ours an important state in the selection of nominees. In years past I have gone to countless “town hall” meetings and met many candidates. And I mean candidates from both parties- as I’ve said many times before I vote for a person and not a party. I have, and will continue to, vote for whomever I feel is the best person for the job, no matter what letter of the alphabet is next to their name.
This year at caucus time I’m doing something I’ve never done before- I’m getting involved beyond just participating/ showing up. I have committed to being a precinct captain for Pete Buttigieg aka Mayor Pete. There are a lot of reasons why, including his military service, his intelligence, his demeanor and how he carries himself, and his openness about his Christian faith. But probably the most important one to me is his message of inclusion and of unity, of his desire and plans to make us the UNITED States of American again. His statement at the close of the most recent debate outlines this perfectly- you can see it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqqEq3HtiqA
I would love to have as many of you as I can on team Pete, so if you are excited about him too, or just curious about him do please reach out to me. And I don’t mean my Iowa peeps- I’m happy to chat with folks from all over the country about what drew me to Pete and why I think he’s the right man for the highest office in the land.
I know that not everyone is on Team Pete. The great thing about this country is that’s OK! We can all have our own beliefs. I would love to talk to you too, about who you support and why. You might find we have a lot more in common than you think.
