Introducing Lilly

As many of you already know, in December we lost our oldest cat, Hershey, to multiple organ failure at the age of 18 1/2.  He had lived in this house longer than I have and it was a major loss to us.

We had thought we had decided a few years ago we were going to be a 2 cat family, but of course Boots came into our lives and changed that (and now we can’t imagine NOT having her!). Once again in 2021 we thought we were going to be a 2 cat family.  We didn’t think it would be fair to Pumpkin- who just turned 15 last week- to bring in another cat.

Well, you know what they say- “Man plans, God laughs”.  The day I came home from vacation a grey tabby kitten showed up on our doorstep.  She was very friendly but very skinny.   We brought her in the house- she practically ran in!- and starting asking around to see if anyone was missing her.  We called the local vet to see if anyone had reached out them.  We posted multiple photos of her on social media.  We took her to get scanned to see if she was chipped.  All to no avail- no one claimed her.

During this time she had settled in very well- mostly hanging out in the basement where we set up food, water and a litter pan for her, but coming upstairs at times to explore.  To our extreme surprise she got along OK with Boots and Pumpkin almost right away.   There is still a little hissing but we are light years ahead of where we were when we first introduced Boots.

So, in news that surprised virtually no one, the kitten is now named Lilly and she is part of our family.  She got a clean bill of health from our vet and got a bunch of shots too since we have no idea if she’s had any or not.  She is older than we thought- probably around 6 months old- but just a lil thing- only weighs about 6 lbs.  She is VERY energetic when she’s awake (kittens sleep a lot) and is gradually starting to cuddle with us for a few moments here and there.

So please join me in welcoming Lilly to Casa Palmer 🙂
