Keeping America Great

As I’m sure everyone knows, the Iowa Caucuses were held last night.  That means that today our TV and radios here in Iowa are political ad free for the first time since last summer.  Alas, the name calling and bad memes will continue on platforms like Facebook for the foreseeable future, but it’s considerable relief all Iowans nevertheless.

So what happens now?  Assuming they beat the blizzard all the candidates that didn’t drop out last night made a bee line for New Hampshire to annoy everyone there for a while!

I kid.  Sort of.  The ads get to be a lot, but I can assure you that in spite of what some political pundits say we Iowans take our “first in the nation” status VERY seriously.  We have amazing access to all the candidates and we ask questions.  Lots of questions.  We come to our caucuses well informed and ready to engage in healthy debate if required.

Iowa did its part.  It certainly looks like it will be a long, hard fought battle in both parties, so your participation whenever the political circus that is the primary vote comes to your state is more important than ever.   We had record turn outs in many precincts this year here in Iowa- lets keep that going nationwide and become a nation of informed, engaged voters.

With social media and the internet in general there is no excuse for anyone in any state not to learn as much about the candidates as we have here in Iowa.  No matter which side of the aisle you’re on- or especially if you don’t identify with either side like myself- getting educated about the candidates is not only your right, but your responsibility as an American.
