Sisterhood of the Stretchy Pants

I’ve observed that at one point or another most women eventually get off the fashion train.  They get to a place where they know what works for them and stay with it regardless of what’s “in style” for years.  The only place to go after that is that fashion graveyard known as the “old lady” section of the department store.  That’s the area where they sell the polyester pants with the matching appliqued banded bottom tops.   I shudder just thinking about it.

I believe I have come to my stop.  I am in love with stretchy pants.  Not just leggings, but all things elastic waisted.  Even my jeans have a little bit of spandex in them.   And, now that I’m in my mid 40s, I’m perfectly comfortable deciding that I’m never giving them up.

I will admit my size is a deciding factor in my decision to exit fashion stage left.  I’m 6 feet tall and my shoulder and hip bones will never allow me to go below a size 12.  I’m currently around a size 16 depending on the brand.  And, like most women my age, my midsection is where my weight is settling.  So, it’s logical that having a little extra room there will fit best and be the most comfortable.

And speaking of, comfort is another huge factor.  I want to look my best, but I’m no longer willing to be miserable to do it.  I gave up uncomfortable shoes ages ago.  When your feet hurt everything hurts.  Ditto for your waist.  I own shapewear, but I only bust that out for special occasions.

One of the great things about being in my 40s is that I’m finally at the point where I’m comfortable in my own skin.   Being comfortable in my clothes is a nice bonus.
