Saying Goodbye

By the time this post goes live I will have said my final goodbyes to my sweet baby girl Pumpkin.  She was 16 years old and we have had her since she was 5 months old.  She is having severe digestive issues, she is losing weight rapidly, and she is not acting like herself at all.  The other cats seem to know something is wrong too.

I very much suggest that every get a pet and I am partial to cats.  However, there is one big ol down side to companion animals, and that is that they get old a lot faster than people do.  Sometimes our beloved pets pass on their own.  But more often than not, there comes a day when you are forced to realize that their health is failing and the merciful thing to do is to help them pass peacefully.

There are very expensive tests we could have done on her which could lead to very expensive treatments.  But there are no guarantees that the tests would find anything treatable.  And even if they did, there are no guarantees that putting her though expensive treatment would give her good quality days, and not just days.

So we have made the heart-breaking decision to help her cross the Rainbow Bridge and end her suffering.  We will be there with her until the end so she will feel loved in her final moments on Earth.  It will suck bad.  But deep down we know it’s the most kind, loving thing to do.

Goodbye my sweet baby girl.  Mommy and Daddy love you very much. You will be missed.
