People are People

There are two things I think everyone learned this week.

#1 We as a nation CAN still come together.  Everyone was on team Damar Hamlin this week.  Didn’t matter who you voted for, or if you knew anything about football.  Everyone was rooting for that young man to recover.

#2 Famous people are people.

We look at celebrities- be they actors, professional athletes, or whatever else they might be famous for –  and just see the glamor.  We see the cars and the houses and the clothes.  But every single one of those people are someone’s son or daughter.  They are someone’s sibling.  They are someone’s friend since third grade.  They stub their toe in the dark.  They have car trouble.  They get colds.  They have a favorite sweater.   They love.  They bleed.  They hurt.  They hope.

If you saw any of the footage of the players after Damar collasped you didn’t see people being fabulous.  All bravado was dropped.   You saw raw emotions.  From Josh Allen’s thousand yard stare to Stefon Diggs openly weeping.  You saw people who were competitors a minute earlier coming together and embracing and praying and comforting each other without any concern about cameras.  You saw people trying to process and deal with something none of them had seen before.

You saw people.
