Why Not Indeed

We all have that friend of family member who frequently posts things from some obscure site no one’s ever heard of with the caption “Why Won’t the Mainstream Media Cover This”?

Of course, everyone with an IQ over 12 knows the answer.  Because it’s complete and utter BS.  It’s the invention of a sad person longing to get noticed.   Frequently these tales are only visible by following a specific set of instructions- i.e. using a specific web browser with specific security features disabled.  If that isn’t the mother of all red flags I don’t know what is.

One of the latest examples- the supposed video of a doctor admitting he gave Damar Hamlin a COVID booster the weekend before he collapsed during a Monday Night football game.  Total fake.  The guy in the video isn’t a doctor, doesn’t live in Buffalo, and has never met Hamlin. Major news outlets didn’t cover it because it obviously a fake, and therefore a nonstory.

Here are a few more recent gems I’ve happened upon.  And no, I’m not making any of these up:

  • a global conspiracy to burn down all the food manufacturing plants.  Because out of the over THIRTY SIX THOUSAND such facilities in the United States, 10 of them caught on fire in one year.  Clearly a high enough percentage to show a pattern.
  • Damar Hamlin actually died in Cincinnati and the NFL has replaced him with a body double because it would be a huge PR issue for the NFL otherwise.  It would be totally easy to convince his family to go along with that, right?
  • Ukraine has actually been 100% devastated by the Russians.  Biden is keeping this from the American people so he can look like a hero by “saving’ the country at some point OR because he is really using those funds for (insert something stupid here).  FIFA is somehow also involved with this.  This one is the most confusing to me, probably because there are so many half baked versions out there it’s hard to know what the story is actually supposed to even be.

Why don’t reputable news outlets cover these?  Because they are busy covering actual news.  You know, things that have actually really happened.  Not the rantings of some clown with internet access and free time.

I’m sorry the guy you liked didn’t win the election.  I’m sorry you don’t understand the difference between facts and fantasy.  I’m sorry you are so frightened of everything this sort of click bait appeals to you.  But finding these “secrets” out and sharing them doesn’t make you a hero.  It makes you a laughing stock.  It makes you that “crazy uncle” no one takes seriously about anything ever.

And if that wasn’t enough, going to sketchy sites with questionable browsers/ settings is a REALLY good way to get 17 different kinds of malware on your computer too.  So not only are you a moron for that, but you are a moron who will now need to pay to get that crap off your computer.  And when you share poison links you allow more morons to experience the same. Congrats.
