You’re Not Getting “Hacked”

You can’t go a day on the Book of Faces without seeing someone posting that they have been hacked.  It’s so common we don’t even get excited about it anymore.  But these people are all wrong.  No one is hacking your grandmother’s Facebook account.

What IS happening is that people are opening themselves up to getting their accounts compromised by clicking on stupid shit.

You see these account breakers all the time.  “Click here to see what wildflower you are”!  “Click here to see what 2024 is going to bring you”!  “Click here to find out your elf name”!    You might have even given in to the temptation to click on one of them yourself.  But you need to stay strong!  When you click on those kinds of things, you usually ARE shown a message about what you are allowing that program to do, but no one reads that, so they just keep clicking and allow apps to have all KINDS of access their account.

Next thing you know, your aunt’s FB page gets cloned and she’s asking for new friends.  After that, she starts hitting you up to buy cheap drugs or God only knows what else.  OR, she starts tagging you in all kinds of posts with titles like “I can’t believe they are gone” or “You won’t believe what happens next”.

Then, the post comes out- “I’ve been hacked!”    No, you weren’t.  You handed over the keys voluntarily.  YOU gave them access to your account because you just had to know what percentage bitch you are.  YOU couldn’t wait to find out what your Bible verse for the year is.

I know this is tough for our older relatives and friends to understand, so please make sure you talk to those folks about these kinds of dangers online.  Then again, I’ve seen some younger folks- some QUITE a bit younger than me- falling for this crap too.  So maybe you better talk to them too.

Let’s all be safe out there!
