Well, maybe not exactly. We need to celebrate the small stuff.
The world is scary. There are conflicts between nations that threaten to bring the entire planet into war. Climate change is causing bigger natural disasters. Neo-Nazis are popping up all over the world. In the US there are many fears what the next four years will bring- even among many folks who voted for the angry tangerine.
I’m not advocating burying your head in the sand. You can- and should- support causes you are passionate about. You should strive to do all the good that you can in all the places that you can as often as your can to paraphrase John Wesley.
I’m promoting celebrating the little wins. The things it’s too easy to brush off as “no big deal”. Celebrate completing that big work project. Celebrate finding that perfect gift. Celebrate your cat’s birthday. Celebrate your team winning that game. Celebrate losing 5 lbs. Celebrate finding that missing glove.
And perhaps even more important, celebrate the little wins in the folks around you! It’s easier for many of us to see those than to see what’s going on in our own lives, so we can all use reminders of the good stuff we overlook and/ or downplay.
So let’s celebrate the small stuff today and every day!
