WAY back in 2020 I started looking at small changes I could make that would be better for the planet. Unfortunately, COVID completely derailed my plans. All of a sudden everything was about single use, disposable items.
It seems we are finally far enough removed from 2020 that we can start thinking about the planet in earnest again.
I did switch to shampoo and conditioner bars in 2020 and I am still using bars to this day. I’m currently using ones from The Earthling https://theearthlingco.com/ and I really like them! I’ve also switched from normal laundry detergent to laundry pods and I stopped using fabric softener. I know pods have their own issues since they may not fully dissolve and leave microplastics behind, but I am tossing fewer plastic containers into the landfill and less chemicals onto my clothes, so that has to count for something.
Something very new for me (like I just started last week) is that I am switching from disposable razors to razors with a reusable handle. Yes I will still be tossing the blades into the trash, but that’s a fraction of the amount of waste compared to tossing the entire razor. I looked at safety razors, but I’m too scared of cutting myself badly to try those just now. Maybe someday.
I’ve noticed that some “big box brands” are making changes too. My Dove body wash now states it’s vegan, cruelty free, and made without sulfates or parabens. My Burt’s Bees face cleanser states all these and in addition is also phthalate free. (Full disclosure- I have no idea what a phthalate is).
What changes are you – or your favorite products- making to go greener in 2025? I’m not going to a vegan diet nor will I be giving up antiperspirant anytime soon, but would love more ideas on simple changes we can make for this beautiful blue rock we live on.
