Living in Fear? Not Me!

In recent weeks I’ve gotten both my flu and COVID shots for the year.  My husband mentioned this in passing and someone made the comment that I was “living in fear”.

Ummmmm no.

I’m vaccinated against all kinds of diseases including measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, shingles, tetanus,  influenza and yes, COVID.  Once I hit 60 I’m going to get the pneumonia vaccine too.

I have diabetes, which puts me at a higher risk for serious complications from serious illnesses.  Getting vaccinated means I am taking active steps to protect my health.  It means I had discussions with my doctor about what treatments make sense for me and my unique health needs. It means that I trust science, not podcasters and certainly not a former heroin addict with a worm in his brain.

Getting vaccinated is the exact opposite of living in fear.  It’s me taking the best care of myself and those around me.  If you can’t understand that I pity you- because you’re the one living in fear.
