This is a day after my own heart. It’s Buy a Musical Instrument day.
As I’ve mentioned many times before, being in band is a given for my dad’s side of the family (mom’s side are good people, but they can’t carry a tune in a bucket). The only question is what are you going to play. And that’s barely a question because almost everyone plays trumpet, but that is a topic for another day.
And also as I’ve mentioned before, if it were not for band I do not know that i would have survived middle or high school. I still play in 2 area bands to this day.
So yes, instruments are important to me. But you don’t need to go out an buy a clarinet! You can get a harmonica or a ukulele or a recorder or a guitar or bongos. There are plenty of options under $30 out there.
But if you really don’t think playing an instrument is for you, we can all help keep the music going in our communities. Attend a high school or community band concert and bring a friend. Ask how you can help. Maybe they need help with publicity or cataloging music or just plain old cash.
Or you could just go buy a harmonica 😉
