It’s a really good thing that I have a long weekend for July 4th because I’m still recovering from the previous one.
I’ve said many times that the older I get the more I enjoy not going out. That is mostly true. But there are events and places and people that I want to show up for. And several of these all came together the last weekend in June.
The first event was by far the biggest. If you love the NFL you need to watch You Tuber Tom Grossi. https://www.youtube.com/@TomGrossiComedy He is a huge Packers fan, but don’t hold that against him. Along with being one of the most funniest people on the platform, he has a passion for doing “Chaotic Good”. By the time you read this he may have already met his goal of raising 5 Million Dollars for charity in 5 years.
The penultimate event of his cross county tour to raise money for St Jude’s was in Minneapolis. I foolishly thought this wouldn’t be a huge event – after all, Tom does semi-regularly refer to the Vikings as “The Purple Incarnation of Satan”. Yeah, I was wrong. Around 500 people descended on Inbound BrewCo. Tom greeted people for over 10 hours until everyone got their time to chat with Tom. I was there for 6 hours. And believe it or not it was an amazing time. Everyone was there for the same thing and regardless of who their favorite team is (21 teams were represented) we were all friends. If you don’t believe me just watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvfzhT0NcI4&t=1178s
Not going to lie- that was the high point of the weekend. But I was just getting started.
Saturday morning I made my way to the Minneapolis Institute of Art aka the MIA. This huge museum is always free and has everything from ancient Chinese pottery to modern art and everything in between. It’s one of my favorite places to get some culture and did I mention it’s free??
Saturday afternoon (after a nap) I went to an event that will surprise some people and not others. I went to eXXXotica – an event for the adult industry. While certainly NSFW it’s not what some people thing it is either. Everyone is (minimally) clothed. There aren’t any sex acts happening. Imagine your local home and garden show just for a different kind of business. It’s spicy fun that’s great for couples. Trust me.
And then if that wasn’t enough I spend Sunday afternoon celebrating my parents’ birthdays (they were born 6 days apart in the same hospital). Got to see cousins I rarely see and spend time with and made plans to spend quality time with my aunt in August.
To say I was exhausted on Monday is an understatement. It’s Saturday and I’m still tired! But I wouldn’t have omitted or changed anything. I got to spend it with my favorite people and it was just perfect all the way around.
Now if you excuse me I’m going back to bed.
