Today isn’t a joke holiday- sorry if that is what you are looking for. Today is American Legion Day.
My father is the commander of a small Legion post. He’s been a member of this post since before I was born. I have many childhood memories of his marching in the Memorial Day parade. Come rain or shine he was always there.
The American Legion was granted a charter by Congress on September 16th 1919. They offer a wide range of services to veterans as well as a place for current and former military members to gather and support one another. Their membership is declining greatly- for whatever reason younger service members aren’t going.
If you know a veteran, after you thank them for their service, ask if they are a member of their local Legion Post. If not, encourage them to look into it.
Do it for my dad.
