Yes I’m still talking about Iceland. No, I don’t care if you are sick of me talking about Iceland
This week I’m sharing a few of the most surprising things about Iceland I learned while I was there.
#1 There was no Diet Mountain Dew (or regular Dew for that matter) anywhere. Pepsi Max (i.e. Pepsi Zero) was everywhere, but Mountain Dew was completely MIA. Since approximately 15% of my body weight is probably Diet Dew this was disappointing.
#2 It rains a LOT. But most days it was only for a short time- the weather changes there perhaps even more often than it does in the Midwest. In fact, they have the same saying there- If you don’t like the weather, wait 5 minutes!
#3 Pedestrians do NOT have the right of way. On top of looking both ways for cars you need to look out for bikes and scooters. I can’t tell you how many times I almost got taken out by one of them.
#4 Icelanders hate Trump. This isn’t surprising, but I was surprised how unapologetic they were about it. No one asked what I thought about him first.
#5 Iceland has weird Christmas traditions. They have 13 Yule elves- many of who have weird quicks like stealing sausages or window peeping but do leave gifts in your shoes- and a cat that eats people who don’t get new clothes. Also, naughty kids don’t get coal in their shoes- they get potatoes.
It’s possible next week I will actually write about something else. But no promises.
