Vegas for Grownups

Because I’m old, I’m still recovering from the trip my husband and I took 2 weeks ago to Vegas.  It was an amazing trip and lots of people have asked what was the best part.  That is a really hard question to answer because there were so many highlights!

However, since so many people have asked, I’ve decided that I would offer my top 5 things to do in Vegas if you aren’t in your 20’s any more.

#5  The High Roller.  This is a giant ferris wheel that sits between the Flamingo and the LINQ.  The ride takes 30 minutes exactly, 15 up and 15 down and the views of the city from the top are pretty great.  The ride never comes to a total stop, but is constantly moving slowly.  I highly recommend getting the “endless happy hour” add-on, which means your “car” is equipped with an open bar.  How many drinks you consume in 30 minutes is entirely up to you- I had 6.  Thankfully, the exit it very close to a taxi stand!

#4 Fremont Street aka “Old Vegas”.    Several blocks of pedestrian only traffic with a huge LED screens overhead that light up in colorful shows every 30 minutes (I got to see a Bon Jovi themed show- heaven!!!).   In between those shows, you can marvel at the street performers, admire the old casinos like the Four Queens and Golden Nugget, listen to great live music, and enjoy a drink at any of the many themed bars and restaurants.

#3 The Buffet at the Bellagio.  Yes, just about every casino has a buffet, but this is the Bellagio.  They take it up several notches.  We went on a Monday night and they where serving rack of lap, mussel paella, and Kobe beef.  On a Monday!  Also, if you have a sweet tooth, this is the place for desserts.  Usually the afterthought of any buffet, they are front and center here and rightly so- so good!  Yes, it costs more than some other buffets, but worth it for the upscale food choices and excellent service.

#2 The Eiffel Tower Experience.  This is a half scale exact model of the one of Paris.  Hands down, this is the best view of the Strip.  Literally everyone in our elevator car gasped out loud when we made it to the top and the city came into view.  There is no restroom up there, so make sure you “go” before you go.  You will want to stay up there awhile.  And yes, you want to go after dark.

#1 The Michael Jackson One Cirque de Soliel show at Mandalay Bay.  If you were a child of the 80’s you grew up with the Thiller and Bad albums.  Even if you weren’t a child of the 80’s just about everyone knows a couple Michael Jackson songs.  Certainly if you were a MJ fan you’ll love this show, but the performances are so jaw-dropping that I truly believe just about anyone would enjoy this show.  Some folks who are lucky enough to have seen several Cirque shows (this was my first) have stated there is less acrobatics and more dancing in this show vs. other shows, but the dancing was excellent and there were plenty of gravity defying acrobatics too.  I was in awe for 90 minutes straight.

I hope you have as much fun on your Vegas vacation as I did on mine!
