The One I didn’t think I’d ever write

I have dear friends and family members who are life long Republicans.  I have dear friends and family who are life long Democrats.  I’ve made it perfectly clear over the years that I am in Independent and that I don’t think either party is worth a damn.  I value my right to a private ballot to the point where I don’t even tell my own husband who I am voting for most of the time.  However, all that being said, this year I cannot remain neutral any longer.

I don’t care who you vote for, as long as it’s not Donald Trump.

While his recent statements regarding his lack of respect for women have drawn a lot of media attention, I felt this way long before this information came to light.   I suspect that was just a convenient way for many GOP members to finally be able to publicly pull their support for a candidate they didn’t ever want without losing votes in their own upcoming elections.  I don’t agree with Trump on healthcare or tax cuts for businesses.  But it’s a lot bigger than that.

Simply put, I am scared that, if elected, Donald Trump will start World War III and end life on this planet as we know it.   His lack of knowledge of US foreign affairs is criminal for someone running for President, and what precious little information he has presented as what is own foreign policy would be runs to gambit from simply ill-informed to downright dangerous.

“I’d take the oil” the comment he made in an interview about the US invasion of Iraq, is probably the #1 ISIS recruitment video right now.  The “scores of recent immigrants charged with terrorism” he claims exist simply don’t  -yet.  (ISIS video #2!!)  About Putin he says  “If he says nice things about me I’m going to say nice things about him”.  Mr Trump, this isn’t middle school.  He continued to say that Putin is a “really very much of a leader”.  True, but so was Pol Pot.  So is Kim Jung Il, who Trump also appears to be fond of, or at least not too worried about, since he stated “I think I’d get along with him”.

Mr. Trump has interesting views on China.  He’s accused them of making up climate change and says we have “economic power” over them that should be used to get North Korea in line (in case he and Jung Il don’t get along I guess?).   I challenge anyone to find any basis in fact for either of these claims.

Mr Trump insults war heroes and veterans with PTSD.   He’s said “If someone hits us within ISIS- you wouldn’t fight back with a nuke?”   Later in that same interview-  “Europe is a big place- I’m not going to take any cards off the table”.  Again in that same interview, in response to the threat of more countries getting nukes- “It’s not like, gee whiz, nobody has them”.

Don’t get me wrong- I’d much rather have a better choice that Hillary Clinton.  I strongly disagree with her on immigration.  I have issues with certain decisions made while she was Secretary of State.  But if the planet is in nuclear winter I won’t much care about any of those things any longer and neither will you.

I have a 5 year old niece and a 12 year old nephew and I would like them to be able to grow up on Earth with clear air to breathe and clean water to drink.  And I am not at all confident that can happen if Trump is elected next month.
