This Ain’t for Sissies

As you may or may not have noticed, I have been obsessing a bit about being 50 years old.  It felt OK when it happened, but it’s gotten weirder (for lack of a better word) since.

I recently had a doctor’s appointment and two things happened that further enforced the “you are getting old” theme.

#1 I got scheduled not only for a mammogram, but a colonoscopy.  Yay.  Snort.  Insert your own joke here.

#2 My blood work shows that my good cholesterol levels have declined significantly in the past 12 months.  This, along with other symptoms (yay hot flashes!), make it very clear that yes, I am in menopause.  Awesome.

On top of that, my unfixable knee still hurts from time to time, especially when it’s cold.  I have occasional little pings of pain where I had shingles a few years ago.  I need my monthly chiropractic appointment so my back doesn’t hurt.  I seem to be needing more sleep (even though I keep reading that older people need LESS sleep).   I can’t remember a damn thing.

I don’t know what’s next, but I DO know that I’m going to keep going and showing women half my age how it’s done.  This shit ain’t for sissies.
