What Are You Reading?

As I mentioned some time ago I have thrown myself into more reading of books and less reading of screens.  If you missed it you can read it here: https://beckypalmer.me/?p=4856 Specifically I was promoting use of your local library, but I have bought quite a few books too.

I’m happy to report that I am still reading tons of books- both purchased and borrowed.   I have tried not to, but I have fallen into a bit of a rut-  the majority of the books I’ve been reading are murder mysteries.  There is nothing wrong with reading books of that genre, but I often read right before going to bed.  Suspense, drama and violence are not exactly the most peaceful things to read right before you try to drift off to peaceful slumber.

So, I’m looking for recommendations.  I know many of my friends like to read and they read all kinds of things.

Outside of murder mysteries, I have gotten into other types of fiction, biographies and even a little science fiction.  I’m not a big fan of horror, romance novels or books – fiction or not- about politics.

And since I’m asking for suggestions, I’m supplying a few of my own:

When Women were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill

Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer

Shortest Way Home  Pete Buttigieg

The Wolf Den by Elodie Harper

Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly

anything by Lucy Foley or Ruth Ware

And for good measure my favorite books of all time include The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, The Stand by Stephen King, and Misquoting Jesus by Bart Ehrman.

So let’s talk about book!  Tell me what you’re reading.  Have you read any of the above and if yes what did you think?
