The internet is an amazing thing. It allows us to share all the world’s information with anyone, anywhere. Unfortunately, it allows us to share misinformation with anyone, anywhere. This has been an issue since the birth of the internet, but the recent election coverage really drew attention to this, what with Facebook being criticized the heaviest for allowing fake news… Read more »
Remember a little holiday called Thanksgiving? It was a day to slow down and remember all our blessings. It was a day to eat too much comfort food and generally relax and recharge with family. However, in recent years those beautiful Thanksgiving traditions are dying a slow and painful death. Thanksgiving dinner is disappearing because folks too busy getting… Read more »
I’ve been seeing and reading a lot of misinformation lately on two medical conditions that are near and dear to me. These conditions are Diabetes and Depression. Since I have been diagnosed with both of these a decade or longer ago I have had plenty of time to educate myself on how to manage them and so I want to… Read more »
I’ve touched on my suspicion of most “alternative” medical treatments in a couple of past posts, most recently in my posts titled Common Scents http://beckypalmer.thecomputerguy.bz/2016/01/common-scents/ and It’s Not that Simple http://beckypalmer.thecomputerguy.bz/2016/02/its-not-that-simple/ I’ve noticed there are a couple quick, simple guidelines that tell me right away I should steer clear of some products: #1 The label says “this product is not designed to… Read more »
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again- Why can’t we all just get along? Between folks who are poor sports when their teams lose (or win), folks who think someone not standing during the national anthem is a crisis, and folks who are very opinionated about their choice for the next President it seems like everyone is very… Read more »
The word “conspiracy” has been thrown around a lot lately. It used to be mostly by people who were a little excentric claiming cover ups of things like alien autopsies, who really shot JFK, and the whereabouts of Elvis Presley. Yes, it’s true. I have Olympic fever. Over the last 9 days I’ve watched handball, table tennis, badminton, water polo, synchronized diving, fencing, beach and indoor volleyball, swimming, gymnastics, cycling, sprint races and shot put. NONE of these are sports I ever watch outside of the Olympics. Two weeks ago I didn’t even know handball existed. But there’s just… Read more »
Yes, it’s true. We actually need a day now to be reminded to say nice things to each other- how sad is that? This holiday was started in North Carolina by two churches and two mayors as a way to fight back against school age bullying, but has now blossomed to include all the special folks in our lives. The… Read more »
As I’m sure you are aware, yesterday was Mother’s Day. And as I’m also sure you know, I do not have any children by choice. Yes I have cats and yes I do say I’m their mom, but I do know there is a huge difference between the care and feeding of a small cat and the care and… Read more »
I was raised in a staunchly loyal Republican family. My uncle was a national convention delegate in 1988. I am too young to have voted for Ronald Reagan, but I voted for Bush Sr in 1992 (my first presidential vote) and for Bob Dole in 1996. Back then I never could have imagined the day when I wouldn’t vote… Read more »
