Celebrating Boots

I’ve been talking/ writing about my dearly departed Pumpkin and the always surprising Lilly (aka Lil’ Miss Mayhem) a lot, but today we are going to talk about my BFF Boots.

Last week we marked Boot’s 6th “Gotcha Day”.  For those unfamiliar, Gotcha Day is the day you
adopted/ “got” your fur baby and is the alternative for when you don’t know their actual birthday.  Boots has been part of our family for 6 years, and we think she is about 9 years old now.

Most people think Boots is a male when they first meet her.  I suppose that’s because she was broader shoulders than a lot of female cats.  It might also be because she has what can only be described as resting bitch face.  She is SO sweet and SO cuddly, but she looks totally the opposite.  I find that funny and quite endearing.

As some of you may remember, the first couple weeks after Boots came into our home were not entirely without drama.  We thought she and Pumpkin would get along great and Hershey would take a while to warm up to her.  Well.  To put it mildly, we were wrong.  Hershey and Boots got along almost from day one and we had to keep Boots and Pumpkin separated so they didn’t beat the ever loving crap out of each other.  Thankfully, eventually everyone got past that and we were a happy 3 cat household for several years.

Fast forward to today, and Boots is my lap cat (but she does sit on Pat’s lap sometimes too).  She has the BEST purr and loves to use it.  In fact, she is sitting on my lap and purring right now 🙂  She has the softest fur you’ve ever felt.  She comes running down the hall to see me when I get home from work.  I adore her with my heart and I have a hard time remembering when she wasn’t here.

Fun fact about Boots- Pat actually named her long before she came to us!  Her previous guardian wasn’t sure what to name her, and since she has 4 adorable white feet, he suggested Boots and it stuck!

Lastly, I am reminding everyone that black cats ARE NOT BAD LUCK.  Black kitties have been warming my heart and home for a couple decades now and I can’t imagine what life would be like without them.  Boots has been such a wonderful addition to our home and I know there are black beauties in your neck of the woods looking for a good home too.
