It takes a special kind of person to be a die-hard fan of a bad team.
I should know. I’m a Miami Dolphins fan.
For those of you who don’t know, as of this writing the Dolphins are 1 and 3 and their most recent loss was to the Tennessee Titans – who came into the game winless. Our quarterback is on IR after yet another serious concussion- his future is uncertain. Our top player on defense went down during the game with a season ending injury. There isn’t much to be hopeful about right now.
So yeah, this season is all but over one month into the season. Ugh.
But just in case you thought that wasn’t enough, we’ve stunk for years. Decades even. Until the 2023 season we had the record for most years in a row not making the playoffs. We DID make the playoffs but got blown out in the first round. We haven’t had a top tier quarterback since Dan Marino (aka the 80s).
Yet they are still my team. I’ve been a fan since I was a kid. I stayed with them the year they went 1 and 15. The license plates on my car proclaim this to the world. I have shirts and cups and a lot of other miscellaneous gear with their logo and I’m not lighting it on fire anytime soon. And next fall I’ll have all the confidence in the world that THIS year it will be different.
