Ever since I got back into the massage routine I’ve been curious about some of the other services the salon/ spa offers. They have a salt room. They do all kinds of skin treatments including microneedling and laser treatments. They even do tattoo removal (I don’t have any tattoos for the record). And they have a float tank.
So as a birthday present to myself I recently booked an hour session in the float tank. I really didn’t know what to expect, but it was a lovely experience!
The actual tank was smaller than I had imagined, but still plenty large enough for me to float effortlessly without touching the sides. The water felt weird- a bit gel-like almost- because of the high salt content, but it didn’t smell like salt at all (although it DID sting when I got water in my eye). I chose to leave a small amount of light on and have soft spa music playing and I believe that did make it easier for me to fully relax. And I did fully relax!
I don’t think I will be floating monthly – as I do massages- but I do think this is something I’ll do be doing a couple/ few times a year going forward. I felt great afterwards and my skin felt so smooth. Added bonus- my right shoulder has been tight for months and it felt better afterwards too! I don’t know if that will stay that way, but it feels pretty good right now.
If you’ve ever wondered about doing a float tank/ sensory deprivation tank I recommend it! It’s perfectly safe for most people, and it’s a great way to carve out some well’ deserved “me time”.
