National Tabby Cat Day

We love any day that celebrates cats around here and today is no exception- it’s National Tabby Cat day!

This is a very new holiday- created in 2016 by Mayor’s Alliance for N.Y.C.’s Animals to celebrate and educate the public about tabby cats.  Tabby isn’t a breed- it’s a color pattern that is seen in many different types of purebred cats as well as your typical run of the mill pet cats most of us cat lovers have. Tabbies are known as loving, friendly cats and are come in many different colors and patterns.

Currently we have one tabby here at Casa Palmer- Lilly.   She is best known as “the one who showed up pregnant” and the mother of Black Kitty, Gray Kitty, and Striped Kitty.  She is our smallest cat and is BFFs with Oreo.  My very indoor only pet cat was also an enormous tabby by the name of Buddy.  He was – in the words of my vet at the time- the dumbest cat God ever made, but he was the sweetest cat and he loved everyone.

So here’s to Lilly, Buddy, and all the other tabbies in the world- both past and present!
